From 72 acts that performed in the series, 12 of the best showed why they earned a place in the Brisbane Grand Final.
Guest judge Toni Lamond was in awe of the talent these seniors had to offer. Dancers, poets, Cantonese Opera and singers from every genre kept all present entertained.
From Karaoke to the Conservatorium stage, Zenaida Thornton proved that should could embrace the stage and the audience with her version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” coming in third place.
In second place was one of Senior Superstars’ favourite performers, Barbara Tyrrell. Barbara brought the house down with her presentation of the Edith Piaf classic “No Regrets” with Toni Lamond calling her Brisbane’s own Piaf.
There can only be one winner. In a performance that almost lifted the roof off the Conservatorium Theatre, 70 year old Michael Burke used his three octave range voice and had the crowd calling for an encore with his version of the Mario Lanza song “Be My Love”. Michael was ecstatic to be named Senior Superstar 2010 for Brisbane. He and his wife will be soon boarding the Spirit of the Outback for a 7 day Legendary Longreach and Winton adventure courtesy of Queensland Rail.
Guest judge Toni Lamond was in awe of the talent Brisbane’s seniors had to offer and attracted a standing ovation form the audience when she sung “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” form the musical Gypsy.
Senior Superstar Brisbane will return in May 2011. We welcome Seniors aged 55 and over living or rate paying in the Brisbane region to come along and give it a go.

13 acts kept the audience captivated with a range of acts including singing, bush poetry and dancing.
The first finalist was Michael Burke. Michael sung a song from Scotland written in the 1700’s called “My Love is Like a Red Red Rose”.
Zenaida Thornton sung the hit “When You’re Good to Mama” from the musical Chicago complete with feather and a belting voice.
Another act that chose a musical song was Max Johnson. Dressed in an amazing coat Max had the audience singing along to his rendition of “Any Dream Will Do” from Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dream Coat.
Linda Lee had the crowd rocking with her high-energy performance of “Rockabilly Rebel”.
The final judges choice was Bill Healy. Bill appeared as a dapper auctioneer at the Coorparoo heat. However, he changed appearance altogether with his performance of the Johnny Cash hit “Boy Called Sue”.
The People’s Choice went to Herbet Shapcott and Sonya Graham. Herb proved that at 83 you’re never too old to rock and roll as he and Sonya danced their way into the audience’s hearts.
We look forward to seeing these fantastic acts at the Senior Superstar Grand Final on Saturday 21 August.
It was a ladies semi with 9 female performers and only 3 male performers. These acts performed to a 350 plus crowd at the Broncos Leagues Club.
The competition was fierce with the best of the Northside seniors aiming for a place in the finals. Our guest judges, husband and wife singing sensation Leisa and Jason Barry Smith and resident judge Paul Dellit had the unenviable job of choosing 5 acts. A tough task as the standard of performers was exceptionally high.
Our five finalists that went through were:
Bary Ellem recited a poem about competing in a bull riding competition that went hilariously wrong called “Ode To The Bull”.
Chilan Wong Anderson sung an excerpt from a Chinese Opera then danced with a sword which had both judges and the audience captivated.
Cay Ellem will be competing against her husband in the Grand Final after she presented the story of “The Geriatric Talent Scout”.
People’s Choice winner Sue Coats calls herself Pink’s Grandmother. She rocked her way into the final with her rendition of the Cherry Berry hit “Johnny B Goode”.
Everyone joined in for a sing-a-long with our last finalist Barbara Tyrrell who sung the Vera Lyn classic “We’ll Meet Again” .
People’s Choice went to the Whistling Dynamo Richard Wade. Richard whistled his way through a selection of music hall songs accompanied by his good friend Mary.
All will return for the Senior Superstar Grand Final.

The final heat for Senior Superstar Brisbane was on of the toughest. It was a singers heat with eight of the nine acts performing a variety of songs including some penned by themselves. The golden art of whistling also made an appearance. It was a very close decision for the top three acts with room having to be made for yet another tie.
Glenys Anderson impressed and amused all with a song she wrote herself about her love life called “Claytons Romance”.
Dressed in army greens, Richard Wade whistled his way through to the semis with his accompanist Mary De Vries on keyboards.
The tie was between first time entrant Ah Kow Lee who sung the Engelbert Humperdinck hit “Last Waltz” and Fay Cooper, dressed in a fifties styled rock n roll theme to match the Connie francis song “Stupid Cupid”.
People’s Choice went to George Prior from Durack. Judges commented that George channelled Al Jolson when he sung “You Made Me Love You”.
All will be performing at the second semi final held on Sunday 8 August 2pm at Souths Sports Club.
Don’t forget to also book your tickets for the Grand Final.

Coorparoo RSL auditorium was packed to the rafters with extra tables and chairs being brought in for the crowd eager to see Senior Superstar Heat 4.
The first of the Southside heats was full of variety as ten acts presented a range of performances including an accordion player, harmonica player, a comedian, and songs from Broadway, opera, an auctioneers song and a humorous song about a cricketer’s itch.
The talent was so good that the judges decision was tough. So tough in fact that we had yet another tie.
Max Johnson, finalist from last year as well as this year’s poster boy for Senior Superstar looked dapper and sung the Tom Jones classic “Green Green Grass of Home”.
He tied with Linda Lee who looked great in her poodle skirt singing the Connie Francis hit “Lipstick on Your Collar”.
Rocking dancers and crowd favourites, Herbert and Sonia showed us some smooth Rock ‘n Roll moves. Herb, a spritely 83 years old proved that you are never too old to rock.
First time entrant Bill Healey brought the house down with his tricky song called “The Auctioneer”. Bill scored the double and won the People’s Choice.
Join us for Heat 5 Sunday 11 July, 2pm at Sherwood Services Club.
There’s only two heats left to the Semi finals!

Over 250 people attended the second heat for Senior Superstar. Geebung has gained a reputation for being a fun and entertaining heat and this year was no different.

Nine acts performed poetry, classic and Broadway songs from Tom Jones to Stephen Sondheim. The Geebung heat also produced the first tie for the series.

Dale Gray dressed the part and sung “I Don’t Know Why’. Although not a well known song, Dale had no trouble captivating audiences with her voice and style. Dale also has a very quick wit, which she fired at the judges and audience.

Poet Cay Ellem followed her husband Barry from last week to become a semi finalist. Cay recited ” The Blowfly” about a wayward fly caught in the bathroom with disastrous results. Cay also won the People’s Choice vote.

Jim Hodgson celebrated his recent engagement to Beryl with his presentation of the Nat King Cole classic “Too Young”. Jim proved you’re never too young or old to find love!

Our contestant that tied was Margaret Haigh. Margaret sung the classic from My Fair Lady “I Could Have Danced All Night”.

These four performers will be going through to the Semi Final on Sunday 1 August at Broncos Leagues Club.

There were a few familar faces that have entered again this year along with some new faces eager to give it a go.

The first finalist was Barbara Tyrrell. Barbara is a Senior Superstar favourite and proved to everyone why she has been a finalist for 3 years. Her rendition of the Bette Midler classic “The Rose” silenced the crowd and impressed everyone present including the judges.

Poet Barry Ellem gave the crowd an entertaining yarn about a fella called Bernie who sowed his wild oats in a small country town with dire consequences.

Multi-talented Chilan Wong Anderson who has previously had resident judge Paul Dellit ducking for cover under the table with her sword dancing, this time performed a martial art fan dance. Judge Greg Moore said it was captivating and enthralling.

People’s Choice winner Sue Coats had the audience clapping and singing along Spanish style with matador hats, fans and castanets to Viva Espana.

These four acts will go through to the semi final at Broncos Leagues Club on the 1st August.

Come along for Heat 2 of Senior Superstar

Sunday 20 June 2pm – 4pm
