Our first finalists chosen
The first semi-final of Senior Superstar drew an eager crowd of 400 along to the Broncos Leagues Club on Sunday the 10th August 2008. 12 talented acts provided a diverse array of performances.
Five acts were chosen to go through to the Grand Final with a wild card act bringing the total acts to 6. The decision was very tough with acts being separated by scores of .33!
Our finalists are -
Faye Cooper who sung the great Edith Piaf classic La Vie en Rose. Complete with Roses and beret.
Elizabeth Kann presented a comedy piece called “Old Flames Meet”. Elizabeth performed with her brother Pat. She has entered Senior Superstar every year except for last year when she was hit by a car and almost lost her leg. She proved that with determination you can get back on your feet again.
Darcy Turgeon sung the Gene Pitney classic “24 Hour from Tulsa”. Darcy is a great fan of the Gene Pitney and had everyone captivated by his performance.
June Lawson presented a touch of Marilyn Monroe with “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend”. June has a great selection of frocks and dressed in Marilyn red for her song!
It’s very rare to see a leprechaun. Even rarer to see a 6 foot one! Dooley MacDonnell performed with his son Cameron a song his father taught to him, that his father taught to him, that his father’s father taught to him called “ The Rakes of Mallow”. He also included a harmonica and washboard!
The wildcard was awarded to Sylvia Delaney who ditched her yodelling to sing “Lucky Old Sun”.
All six acts will be gracing the City Hall stage on August 31 for the Grand Final
